Moroccan-Mauritanian parliamentary cooperation discussed in Nouakchott
Mauritania-Morocco, Politics, 2/2/2000
Means of upgrading Moroccan-Mauritanian parliamentary cooperation were discussed at a meeting in Nouakchott between the visiting speaker of the chamber of advisors (upper house of the Moroccan parliament), Jalal Essaid, and the speaker of the Mauritanian senate, Diang Bobo Laria.
The two sides discussed the possibility of setting up a group of friendship and cooperation at the level of the two legislative institutions. The group would help the two governments overcome obstacles hampering bilateral cooperation.
They equally called the two governments to convene as soon as possible the high joint commission, to set up a joint chamber of commerce and to foster cooperation in agriculture, tourism, transport and communication.
The Moroccan delegation which started a four-day working visit to Mauritania Sunday was received by President of Mauritania, Mouaouiyia Ould Sidi Ahmed Tayaa, and held meetings with Mauritanian businessmen to explore investment opportunities in both countries.
Morocco and Mauritania are both members of the Arab Maghreb Union that also musters Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
