Three protocols signed to work in media free zone
Egypt, Business, 2/1/2000
Three protocols were signed Monday to work in the Media Free Zone prior to signing the final contracts as soon as a decision is issued by the council of ministers to define the free media zone.
Minister of Information Safwat el-Sherif said that the first protocol was signed between al-Jezira channel and each of the Egyptian Company for the Media Production City and the Egyptian Satellites Company.
Under the protocol, a studio and two channels can be hired to transmit on the Egyptian satellite Nilesat for five years.
The second protocol was signed with a Lebanese joint stock company to rent a studio and transmit, for five years, on an economic specialized channel on the Nilesat.
The third protocol was signed with a specialized Egyptian joint stock company in the field of marketing to rent, for five years, a studio and a space channel on the Egyptian satellite Nilesat. Sherif said that the manufacture of the second Egyptian satellite Nilesat 102 will be completed before February 17.
A celebration and a press conference will be held at Toulouse in France to announce completion of the manufacture of the second Egyptian satellite prior to its transportation to the launch base.
Sherif will lead a top-level information delegation on a visit to France on February 15-18 to inspect the new Egyptian satellite, Nilesat 102.
The satellite, manufactured by the Toulouse-based Matra Marconi Satellite Company, is to be launched next July from Kourou in French Guyana.
Head of the Egyptian satellites company Amin Bassiouni said that the new satellite will provide greater communication and information facilities including 72 additional TV channels.
