Barak: Israel will not escalate conditions in south Lebanon

A Monte Carlo radio correspondent quoted Israeli sources as saying on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has explained to the US administration that Israel will not escalate conditions on the Lebanese front but that it also will not accept "painful" operations that might divert the peace process from its track.
