Iranian president gets a message from Lebanese counterpart

Iranian President Muhammad Khatami on Sunday in Tehran received Lebanese Minister of Trade and Commerce Nasser al-Saeedi, currently visiting Iran. Al-Saeedi delivered the Iranian president a message from Lebanese President Emile Lahoud.

During the meeting, President Khatami commended Lebanon's people and government for backing the Lebanese resistance, adding that Lebanon "symbolizes the Arab and Islamic steadfastness."

The Iranian president stressed the importance of all Islamic countries' backing to Lebanon, asserting Iran's readiness to provide backing to Lebanon and take part in rebuilding what had been destroyed by the war so Lebanon can be restored to its due position and its role in the region and the Islamic world.

Al-Saeedi underlined the importance of Lebanese- Iranian relations. He praised the material and moral backing provided by Iran to Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the first Iranian vice-president, Hassan Habibi, has expressed his hope of increasing cooperation between Iran and Lebanon in the framework of the joint economic committee and further promotion of activities run by the private sector.

This was expressed during the meeting held between Habibi and al-Saeedi during which the latter indicated the great opportunities for economic, trade and cultural cooperation relations between the two countries, also stressing the revitalization of the private sector between the two countries.

Talks between the two sides centered on bilateral relations and means of developing all forms of bilateral cooperation in economic, trade and cultural areas.
