Palm trees in Syria

Until the end of 1999 the number of palm trees in Syria reached 176,000, of which 70,000 are giving fruits, which produced 3,000 tons of dates in 1999 while the production of dates was 600 tons in 1986.
A leaflet issued by the directorate of agricultural affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture said that the number of palm trees in Palmyra reached 103,000, including 41,000 fruitful trees and 62,000 palm trees in al-Bukamal, of which 27,000 are giving fruit while another 11,000 palm tress-- of which 2,000 give fruit-- are scattered in other parts of the country.
