France -Israeli nuclear power plant talks effected by Israeli IAEA non-compliance
Israel-France, Economics, 1/29/2000
As to whether the Israeli minister for infrastructure is scheduled to discuss the purchase of a nuclear power plant from France , A foreign ministry statement said "A possible visit to France by the Israeli infrastructure minister is only a report in the press at this time. At this stage, there has been no official request concerning such a visit."
As regards the possible sale of a nuclear reactor to Israel, the foreign ministry spokesperson said "it's a question to be examined in detail, if in fact the matter comes up, that is to say, if the request is made, which I am not confirming. If there were such a project it would be examined extremely closely because France, as a nuclear state party to the non-proliferation treaty and a member of the nuclear suppliers group, is required to observe extremely precise instructions."
Spokesperson added "These obligations are all the more specific when we're looking at a request from a country that does not apply IAEA guarantees; Now, if it were confirmed that the Israeli infrastructure minister was coming to Paris, there are many other energy projects going on with Israel."
