El-Mahdi meets a British official in Cairo

Former Sudanese Prime Minister El-Sadek El-Mahdi, head of the opposition Ummah Party, is to meet Derek Belmbli, manager of the Middle East and North Africa department in the British Foreign Office, tomorrow in Cairo.
Salah Galal, manager of Ummah Party's bureau in Cairo, told ArabicNews.com that El-Mahdi will meet with the British official in the attendance of the British ambassador in Cairo to evaluate the current situation inside Sudan to analyze the political situation with its political, military regional and international dimensions and the initiatives raised in the framework of IGAD or the joint Egyptian - Libyan initiative as well as the developments related to the two initiatives for comprehensive political solution.
Belmbli met during a visit to Sudan with high-ranking Sudanese officials with whom he discussed the latest steps for improving bilateral relations and discussions between Sudan and the European Union, as well as IGAD negotiations concerning peace in addition to regional issues.
This is the first visit by a high-ranking British official since the UK ambassador's return to Khartoum in July 1999.
