Renault to introduce new model in a Marrakech event

The Moroccan tourism town of Marrakech has been selected by the French car maker Renault to unveil its new model, a Sport Utility Vehicle named Megane RXR, reported the North Africa Journal.

The company has invited some 1,700 reporters from Europe and Asia to attend the event and Royal Air Maroc was selected as the official carrier to transport them into Morocco.

This ceremony will be held between January 31st and March 1st, 2000.

The city of Marrakech already has the expertise and facilities to hold such events. In January 1998, General Motors organized a gigantic event with 16,000 participants. According to sources in Morocco, the GM event cost some $20 million to organize.

The airport in Marrakech may be considered a small one compared to the average European and North American airport but it has a sufficient capacity to handle traffic for such events and similar corporate conventions, North Africa Journal said.

As the official carrier, RAM will establish 23 additional rotations to Europe and Asia during the convention period.
