AL invites Moratinos to attend its meetings

The Secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Ismat Abdul Meguid has extended an invitation to the EU-ME peace process special envoy Miguel Moratinos to take part in the inaugural session of the 113th course of the Arab League AL council on the level of the foreign ministers on March 12 in order to read a comprehensive statement on the EU role and its future prospects in the ME peace process and the European vision on how to achieve peace and stability in the region.
The AL assistant secretary general for the Arab affairs Ahmad Bin Hali said that such a participation for the EU envoy is the first of its kind in the march of the AL. A visit which was agreed upon during the recent visit made by the EU delegation to the AL premises under the leadership of the Portuguese foreign minister Jam Gami.
Bin hali added that this invitation was an important step in the framework of Euro-Arab co-ordination to serve the Arab negotiation stand on all tracks, so as to underline the importance of the European role in revitalizing the ME peace process.
Meantime, the Saudi and Palestinian representatives to the AL have officially asked it to enroll at the agenda of the AL 113th session to be held on March 12, the question related to the Israeli attempts to cut parts of al-Aqsa mosque lands to set up what is called Suleiman synagogue there and a settlement inside its walls.
Palestine's permanent representative at the AL Muhammad Sbeih indicated attempts made by certain extremist Israeli groups to carry out works such as stockpiling of weapons and explosives.
Bin hali said that the aim of the said Saudi-Palestinian request is to take a united Arab stand towards the aggressive Israeli attempts and to work for providing technical and financial backing to the Palestinian people in Jerusalem to withstand the Israeli schemes.
