Morocco, Economics, 1/28/2000
Moroccan exports were in the period between January and November 1999 worth $6.94 billion, posting a 5.1% rise in comparison with the corresponding period of 1998 ($6.16 billion), says the exchange office.
The office says except for phosphates all other products had their sales increase from $4.99 billion to $5.26 billion.
Exports of equipment goods rose by 28.6% to reach $625 million, mainly due to electric and electronic products (from $329 mln to $426 mln).
Agro-food exports progressed by 18% to reach $200 million, due to good sales of canned vegetables and of virgin and refined edible oil.
Exports of leather-textile items which account for 38% of Moroccan exports remained stable ($2.45 billion)
Products whose exports regressed are sea and farming products, resulting from a decline in citrus fruits. Meanwhile, potato exports progressed by 179.6% (from $11.7 mln to $29.6 mln).
