In 1998, Moroccan-Italian trade exchanges reached $928 million posting a surplus of $245 million to the benefit of Italy.
During the first nine months of 1999, Italian tourists earned Morocco $198 million, the amount representing 13.8% of overall tourism revenues, the office said.
In 1998, a total of 112,023 Italians vacationed in Morocco, earning the kingdom $184 million, i.e. 10.9% of total tourism returns.
Ways to bolster economic partnership between Morocco and Italy will be probed in Rabat next week during a visit next week to Morocco by Italian Foreign Trade Minister Piero Fassino and a group of economic operators.
Morocco is Italy's 4th trade partner. Moroccan exports to Italy are made up mainly of fertilizers, fresh fish and garments, while imports are made up mostly of cars, machinery and various industrial tools.
