Privatization plan continues in Egyptian communications sector
Egypt, Economics, 1/28/2000

Egyptian Communication Minister Ahmed Nazeef said that privatization will extend to the regular telephone sector following the success of the mobile phone experiment, saying during a meeting of the culture, information and tourism committee in the Shura Council he is currently preparing a draft resolution for communications to prevent a monopoly in the communications field and making licenses for providing the service and controlling prices.

He added that an organization for developing the data and technology industry will be established. The organization is to be run by the private sector, aiming at developing exports and issuing a national ranking for the economic establishments to help in planning and facilitating investment, as well as a national ranking for keeping the real estates.
