Syria, Bahrain sign an agreement on fighting terrorism
Syria-Bahrain, Politics, 1/27/2000

Syrian Minister of the Interior Muhammad Harba and members of his accompanying delegation arrived in Damascus on Wednesday following a several-day visit to Bahrain.

During his visit Harba met with Bahraini Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al-Khaleifa and with Prime Minister Sheikh Khaleifa Bin Salman al-Khaleifa.

Harba also held talks with his Bahraini counterpart, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Khaleifa al-Khaleifa, dealing with cooperation relations between the ministries of the interior in the two states and a memorandum of coordination and cooperation was signed.

In a statement following the signing ceremony, Harba said the signed memorandum calls for cooperation in the areas of public crimes and fighting drug crimes and terrorism, adding, "We are against terrorism and we condemn it where ever it exists. We distinguish between terrorism and people's struggles to restore their occupied lands and usurped rights."

The Syrian minister continued that the memorandum also called for fighting terrorist crimes in the framework of the Arab strategy to fight terrorism and the antiterrorism pact agreed upon by the council of the Arab ministers of the interior and the council of the Arab ministers of justice, as the two councils defined terrorism and condemned it as a crime.
