Iran: 1971 agreement fits as a dialogue with UAE

The secretary general of the higher council of the national security in Iran, Hassan Rowhani, said that Israel represents the greatest danger to the region.

He criticized the US military presence in the Gulf region, adding that Iran deals with the United Arab Emirates on the grounds of "fraternity and brotherly ties," renewed his country's readiness to maintain a dialogue with the UAE, in reference to the conflict over the three Gulf islands of Lesser Tanb, Greater Tanb and Abu Mousa.

On the sidelines of the conference on the Gulf and its prospects in the 21st century, currently being held in Tehran, Rowhani stressed that Iran does not constitute any threat to the region. He questioned why only the conflict with the UAE is debated among other border disputes.

He confirmed that Tehran is ready for talks with the UAE on the grounds of 1971 agreement and wants "brotherly and warm" relations with the UAE and does not "accept the system of the strong and the weak in the world." He asserted that such a system is the basis of the dispute between Iran and the US.

He renewed his country's readiness to make joint military maneuvers with the Arab Gulf states.
