Indyk stresses US efforts to resume Syrian- Israeli negotiations
Syria-Israel-USA, Politics, 1/27/2000

The new US ambassador to Israel, Martin Indyk, has asserted that the US administration continues its efforts with Israel and Syria, and it expects to receive answers to proposals made to bridge the rift between the two sides' stances, adding that the US is in close contact with the Syrians and the Israelis in this respect.

Indyk continued in an interview with Israeli Radio on Tuesday that negotiations in any peace process have their ups and downs, saying that the Syrian negotiation track does not differ from other tracks in this respect.

Indyk added that the US administration believes that the Syrian and Israeli sides are committed to achieving peace this year, "a matter which is very possible to attain."

Indyk said the US gives the Palestinian track the same interest given to other peace process tracks.
