Gulf-Kuwait, Military, 1/27/2000
In the light of efforts made by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to form joint defense forces, Kuwait's deputy premier and defense minister, Sheikh Salem al-Sabah, has asserted that the GCC member states are proceeding in developing "al-Jazira Shield" forces to be a strike force in defending any Gulf state against any aggression.
Sheikh Salem al-Sabah said that participation of units from the Kuwaiti army in al-Jazira Shield reflects the importance of military cooperation among the Gulf states.
He added that the al-Jazira Shield project is considered one of the Gulf states' fruits and one of the most important pillars for military cooperation.
