Syria said it is ready to send experts to Washington to discuss the US working paper concerning the Syrian - Israeli peace talks if Israel announces its readiness to convene the border committee's meetings. An official Syrian source said his country's stance was and is still demanding convening the meetings of the border committee assigned to discuss withdrawing to the borders that existed on June 4, 1967. US diplomatic sources in Syria said yesterday that US Secretary of State Madeliene Albright will stop in Damascus during her visit to the area in the coming month, adding that Albright will discuss with Syrian officials developments in negotiations on the Syrian - Israeli track and means of pushing them forward. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said on Tuesday that Syrian President Hafez al-Assad is a "strong leader, a man who honors his word and has credibility." Barak added in a speech he delivered during a closed-door meeting he held with the representatives of the Israeli security sides that reaching a peace agreement with Syria might be a turning point toward ending the conflict in the region and reaching a comprehensive peace agreement, Israeli Radio reported. Syria blamed Israel for the consequences that might result from its obstructions of the peace negotiations and any negative end that might take place. Syrian Vice President Mohammed Zohair Mesharka asserted that Israel's attempts to evade alowing the peace rights topped by withdrawing to the June 4, 1967 borders stirs up doubts concerning its seriousness toward making a success of the Syrian - Israeli talks. The British Foreign Office said on Tuesday that a Libyan airlines plane made a flight between Tripoli and Heathrow airport and returned to Tripoli on Monday evening, a matter which signifies the resumption of air flights between the two countries on the grounds of "diplomatic normalization." Go

Palestinian Immigration Minister Hisham Abed Alrazek said the Palestinians are waiting for lists of names of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons who are eligible for release, adding that there are 1,650 detainees in the Israeli prisons, most of whom are from Hamas and the Islamic movement. Abed Alrazek also said there are 22 sick persons and three female Palestinian captives in Israel that must be released immediately, as they are not accused of any charges, and the prisoner's situations are getting worse day after day. A 18 year-old man from al-Bab city, Aleppo countryside, opened fire on the five members of his family while they were sleeping in one room, resulting in immediate death of his sister (21) and his brother (13), while the parents were admitted to the intensive care unit of the university hospital in Aleppo.
