Sudanese opposition refuses new ministerial formation
Sudan, Politics, 1/26/2000
The Sudanese opposition dismissed the decision made by Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir to reshuffle the Sudanese government.
The opposition said that there is no radical change in the new government and that the most important ministries-- defense, information, interior and foreign affairs-- remain the same.
Mohammed El-Moetasem Hakem, a member of the executive office of the Democratic Unionist Party, said that by this ministerial formation, Hassan Turabi, head of the dissolved Sudanese Parliament and the ruling National Congress Party, becomes much stronger than he used to be and becomes the man who makes policies. Hakem said the formation assures El-Bashir's failure in removing Turabi and the extremist groups from his government.
Meanwhile, the manager of the opposition Ummah Party, Salah Galal, said the Ummah Party refuses to participate in the Sudanese government before ending the political settlement after forming a government.
