Indyk, Mauritanian minister present credentials to Israeli president
Mauritania-Israel-USA, Politics, 1/26/2000
Martin Indyk officially handed over his credentials as ambassador for the US in Tel Aviv on Tuesday to Israeli President Ezer Weizman, in a celebration held in occupied Jerusalem.
Indyk had previously held the posts of US under secretary of state for Near East affairs and of ambassador for the US in Tel Aviv.
Meanwhile, the Israeli radio reported on Tuesday that the first ambassador for Mauritania in Tel Aviv also presented his credentials to Weizman.
Mauritania and Israel agreed to establish diplomatic relations on the ambassadorial level during celebrations held in Washington and under the patronage of the US secretary of state at the end of last year, a matter which evoked the protest and criticism of Mauritanian parties over this step.
