Attempts at sowing sedition rejected
Egypt, Politics, 1/25/2000
President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday made it clear that any attempts at sowing seeds of sedition and dissension in the Egyptians society and striking at its national unity are futile. The society will just reject them, he said.
The government will not neglect, not even for an instant, the need to provide stability and security to the society on every spot of Egypt's land, in big cities and even the smallest and most remote villages, the president told a ceremony marking police day.
Security and stability are basic prerequisites for the realization of equality among citizens and for providing the right climate for economic progress and high development and growth rates, the President said.
President Mubarak further said the police have shouldered the responsibility and continue to do so, to save the country from dangers of extremism and terrorism in the past decades. They continue to exert relentless efforts, together with the state's educational, media and non-governmental organizations, to make sure the country's youths are not brainwashed or pushed into crimes or acts of sabotage, he said.
The society is capable of differentiating between good and evil, right and wrong and truth and lies, the President said. President Mubarak affirmed that the whole society must be committed to provide an atmosphere of fair elections. It is the responsibility of those who nominate themselves and run for the elections. This requires a significant amount of discipline, refraining from the use of all forms of force and maintaining judicial control over the activities of the constituencies, President Mubarak said.
The police are committed in their tasks to respect the human rights and public freedoms of every citizen, Mubarak added. Any violation of those rights and freedoms will be dealt with firmly and never neglected, the president expounded.
Justice is the pillar that guides the government and non-governmental organizations and people, regardless of political or religious affiliations, because all are equal before the law President Mubarak concluded .
