Winners of Paris-Dakar-Cairo Rally celebrated their victory at Giza Pyramids Plateau

At the Giza Plateau, a large number of Egyptian high officials and about 10,000 tourists from 35 states celebrated winners in the Dakar Rally, the most famous and biggest rally all over the world.
The Rally's total distance is about 11,000 km., divided into 17 stages. It began from Eiffel Tower in Paris, on Dec. 27,1999.
Frenchman Richard Sainct rode his motorcycle to victory. Oscar Gallardo of Spain was second, 30 minutes behind the winner. Jimmy Lewis of Costa Mesa finished third.
France's Jean-Louis Schlesser and Andorra's Henri Magne were first, about 12 minutes, 33 seconds ahead of Frenchmen Stephane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret. Jean-Pierre Fontenay and Gilles Picard were third, 27 minutes, 33 seconds back.
Paris-Dakar-Cairo Rally has been covered through mass media with great interest, especially during the stage performed in Egypt, at 2000 km. distance and finished at the site of Egypt's Pyramids. 170 world TV channels covered the Rally events.
