News conflicts concerning convening an Arab summit
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 1/24/2000

There is a conflict in what has been published in the Arab newspapers as al-Quds newspaper said that Egypt expects an Arab summit soon with Iraq's attendance after the visit of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to Syria, while Jordan's Al-Arab newspaper said there would be no Arab summit and that disputes would be solved away from the public.

Mubarak's visit to Syria ended a coolness in relations between Egypt and Syria which lasted for a long period, and Egypt informed Syria of its support of Syria's steady stance in regard to Israel and that it must adhere to its rights.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa asserted that Syrian - Egyptian coordination and consultations are continuing concerning the peace process in the Middle East, saying that there is a conformity of opinion on pushing forward healthy Arab relations.

Concerning the Arab summit, Moussa said, "This issue is a matter of consideration as it concerns not only Syria and Egypt."
