Syrian- Egyptian summit in Damascus

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Sunday resumed talks in a closed-door meeting.
Later in the day, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa and his Egyptian counterpart, Amr Moussa, joined the meeting.
Talks dealt with several topics of concern to both Syria and Egypt and the Arab states in general. Views were exchanged on the topics, especially among which were the situation of the Middle East peace process, obstacles hindering the peace talks on the Syrian- Israeli track and current contacts being made in this concern.
The two presidents also exchanged views on current contacts and ideas put forward to improve Arab relations and stands in the peace process.
The Egyptian side expressed support for the Syrian position in the peace talks, which provides for Israel's withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 borders.
On Saturday afternoon President Mubarak arrived in Damascus, and then the two presidents held a meeting attended from the Syrian side by the two vice- presidents, the prime minister, the information minister and the state minister for presidential affairs. On the Egyptian side, the meeting was attended by members of the Egyptian delegation accompanying Mubarak.
On Sunday President Mubarak left for Jordan following a two-day visit to Syria.
