Sudanese, UAE presidents meet in Abu Dhabi
United Arab Emirates-Sudan, Politics, 1/24/2000

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan met on Sunday in Abu Dhabi with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, currently visiting the UAE.

Talks dealt with bilateral relations between the two states and regional and international conditions.

Earlier in the day, the deputy commander in chief of the armed forces in the UAE and crown prince, Sheikh Khaleifa Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, met with the Sudanese president.

The Sudanese president briefed Sheikh Khaleifa on developments in Sudan in the light of the measures recently taken there.

Earlier in the day al-Bashir had arrived in the UAE, his latest trip abroad since he declared a state of emergency in his country.

The official UAE news agency, WAM, said the UAE and Sudan earlier this week signed a memorandum of understanding to forge cooperation in developing free trade zones and concluded a deal to help Sudan develop its port services.
