Djibouti-Egypt, Politics, 1/24/2000
President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti will visit Cairo on Tuesday for two days, during which he will meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The advisor to the president of Djibouti, Muhammad Sami al-Haj, told journalists at the conclusion of a meeting with the secretary general of the Arab League, Esmat Abdul Meguid, that Djibouti's initiative for establishing peace and stability in Somalia will be at the core of President Guelleh's talks with Egyptian officials.
During his visit, President Guelleh will discuss reconciliation efforts in Somalia with the AL chief, as well as the situation in the Arab states.
On Friday, the UN announced its backing for the regional peace plan of President Guelleh aimed at establishing peace in Somalia.
The initiative calls for organizing a national reconciliation conference and setting up a united national authority in Somalia.
The Djiboutian president also suggests a full disarmament of militias' and new deterrent measures to punish "warlords" who refuse to abide to the peace agreement's requirements.
