EU conditions postpone Gaddafi's visit
Libya-European Union, Politics, 1/24/2000
The European Commission on Sunday postponed an invitation it addressed to Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi, considering that Libya has not carried out what it described as conditions for achieving a constructive visit to Brussels.
A statement by the European Commission said the commission's chairman, Romano Prodi, asserted that in order to have the visit paid to Brussels, Libya has to announce officially its acceptance of the Barcelona declaration which sets the democratic principles for cooperation between Europe and the Mediterranean states.
The statement indicated that Prodi on Friday made two telephone calls with Gaddafi concerning the visit.
