Riyadh celebrates nomination as 2000 Arab Culture Capital

The Saudi capital hosts this Saturday official celebrations for its nomination as an Arab cultural capital for the year 2000 with the attendance of the director general of the U.N. Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Kotchiro Matsora.
The mass cultural gathering will be attended by heads of Arab and Islamic cultural organizations in addition to intellectuals and the Riyadh governor, Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz.
Arab culture ministers selected Riyadh to be the Arab culture capital for the year 2000 during their meeting in Sharjah last year.
Ceremonies in Riyadh will coincide with the final intensive preparations for the national festival for Saudi heritage next Wednesday.
