Media Production City, promising project
Egypt, Economics, 1/20/2000

President Hosni Mubarak will open the first phase of the Mubarak Studio Complex in the Media Production City of the Sixth of October suburb in May,on the occasion of the annual medial celebrations.

"The complex will house 18 most advanced studios," Minister of Information Safwat El-Sherif said Wednesday.

"Vital facilities will also open in this city such as a 300-room hotel, a shopping center and theaters," he added.

"The planned Media Production City is part of a strategy adopted by the Ministry of Information since the early 1990s," Sherif expounded.

During his inspection of the pavilions of the companies taking part in the ongoing Cairo Telecom 2000 exhibition, Sherif said the project has been subject to scrutiny that showed it will certainly succeed.

"Egypt has the infrastructure and potentials to render the project successful," stressed the minister, noting that one of these structures is the Nile Sat Company, the Media Production City in addition to a new satellite company, now under construction.

Sherif called on the Arab and foreign satellite channels to make use of the huge potentials of this project.

Responding to a question about the motives for this project at a time similar projects have been established in some neighboring Arab countries, Sherif said the project is an embodiment of the pioneering role of Egypt and stands for its outstanding position as it enters the 21st century and places its media on the international media map.

"The Egyptian media was the first to stress the importance of preserving the national entity and cultural identity in a world dominated by a tremendous revolution of communication and information," said Sherif.
