Moussa convenes with US ambassador before leaving Cairo
Egypt-USA, Politics, 1/19/2000

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa met yesterday with Daniel Kurtzer, the US ambassador in Cairo, who said after the meeting that he wanted to meet Moussa before heading to his country today at dawn to hold consultations with officials in Washington.

Kurtzer said he exploited the opportunities and listened to Moussa's opinions concerning the peace process and the latest developments in the Middle East, in addition to reviewing the results of the Egyptian delegation's visit under the chairmanship of Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ali Hassan to Washington last week to discuss Sudan.

Regarding whether he conveyed any messages from Washington to Moussa concerning the negotiations on the Syrian and the Israeli tracks with Israel. Kurtzer said, "We expect the USA to play its role on the Syrian - Israeli track even if the two countries' leaders have not attended," denying conveying any specific messages concerning this subject.
