Egyptian-US talks on Sudan
Sudan-Egypt-USA, Politics, 1/19/2000
The Sudanese al-Rai al-Am daily said on Tuesday that the Sudanese government had received a very important report from Cairo about the visit of an Egyptian delegation to Washington and the talks it held there on Sudanese affairs.
The paper added that the Egyptian-US talks centered on two basic issues: maintaining a comprehensive political solution on the ground of Sudan's unity within the framework of a one united "democratic Sudan" and holding a direct dialogue between the US and Sudan in order to reach a common understanding.
The paper indicated that the Egyptian delegation stressed to the US administration that changes which took place recently in Sudan are real and continuous and will not be given up and that in light of these changes there has become an actual joint inclination between the Sudanese government and the opposition to reach a comprehensive political solution.
