Yemen, Sudan and Djibouti Summit in Sanaa
Regional, Politics, 1/19/2000
The presidents of Yemen, Djibouti, and Sudan held a tripartite summit on Monday evening in Sanaa in which they stressed their backing for Syria, Lebanon and Palestine in order to restore their occupied lands and legitimate Arab rights.
The Yemeni news agency, Saba, quoted a Yemeni official source as saying that during the meeting of the three presidents-- Yemen's Ali Abdullah Saleh, Djibouti's Ismail Omar Guelleh, and Sudan's Omar al-Bashir-- they underlined the importance of Arab solidarity and strengthening common work.
The three presidents also discussed means of coordinating efforts of the three countries to strengthen security, stability and peace in the Red Sea due to its importance as a key passage for the interests of the three countries and international interests.
Meanwhile, Saleh and Guelleh asserted the importance of convening an Arab summit regularly to achieve Arab solidarity and to confront the challenges facing the Arab states.
In their joint statement issued yesterday at the conclusion of Guelleh's four-day visit to Yemen the two presidents said that the just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East must be based on regaining all legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and establishing their independent state with Jerusalem as a capital, as well as achieving a complete withdrawal from the occupied Arab lands in Syria and Lebanon.
