Morocco, Spain determined to boost bilateral cooperation
Morocco, Politics, 1/18/2000
Morocco and Spain are determined to give a new momentum to their bilateral cooperation, said Spanish home minister Jaime Mayor Oreja who paid a short visit to Morocco on Monday.
The Spanish official underlined at a news briefing after a meeting with Moroccan peer Ahmed Midaoui the good relations that have always existed between the two countries in security matters and said his talks with Midaoui covered a set of issues which require an updated approach.
The meeting, the first between the two home ministers since Midaoui was appointed last November, discussed what is uniting the two countries and what must be done in security matters, Oreja said.
Moroccan-Spanish cooperation in matters of security, struggle against drug trafficking and illegal emigration topped the talks that will be carried on at the level of working groups. The two sides also probed mutual assistance in matters of elections and civilians rescue as well as cooperation in the fields of devolution and decentralization.
Oreja invited a technical team from the Moroccan interior department to visit Spain to follow the general elections slated for next March.
