Georgetown Univ. grants honorary doctorate to Mubarak

US Georgetown University Board of Trustees supported selection of President Hosni Mubarak to be granted an honorary doctorate. The whereases of selection mentioned President Mubarak's chain of accomplishments starting from "helming well the ship of his country amidst gales in the wake of assassination of late President Sadat", and to the "leading of economic transformation in his country without prejudicing the social structure." The US University Board also referred to the unprecedented freedom of press achieved in Mubarak's era.
On the President's foreign achievements, the Board said Mubarak has contributed to all the peace endeavors in the Middle East whether in regard to the Arab-Israeli conflict or to the liberation of Kuwait.
Founded in 1789, Georgetown is the oldest American University and is considered one of the leading 7 universities in the United States.
US President Bill Clinton and late presidents George Kennedy and Harry Truman are Georgetown graduates.
