Sudanese court to rule on parliament's dissolution
Sudan, Politics, 1/17/2000
After the decision of the Sudanese constitutional court to decide on the legitimacy of the dissolution of the Sudanese Parliament, the followers of Hassan Turabi, head of the dissolved parliament, hope for a judicial verdict that cancels dissolving the parliament and ends the state of emergency.
In the first reaction on the decision of the Sudanese constitutional court to agree to hear arguments regarding the resolutions Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir took in December dissolving the parliament and declaring the state of emergency.
Mohamed Hasan El-Amin, a member of the leading organization for the ruling National Congress party, said the court's decision opens the door before the possibility of gaining the momentum.
El-Amin said in statements to the Qatari al-Jazeera channel that President El-Bashir formally said he will abide by the verdict of the constitutional court and that if the court annulled the president's resolutions, there will be no way to cancel it according to its verdict.
The constitutional court issued a verdict on Saturday to hear the case and decided to inform the Sudanese minister of justice of the plea presented by some members of the dissolved parliament who support Turabi.
