Israel's refusal to joint NPT is a threat, Arab League
Regional-Israel, Politics, 1/17/2000

The Arab League said on Sunday that Israel's refusal to join the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) placing its nuclear power under the "comprehensive insurance system" constitutes a threat to security.

These remarks were made by the secretary general, Esmat Abdul Meguid, during the opening of a scientific seminar, entitled "international nuclear insurance systems."

He said that the Israeli refusal constitutes a threat to national security and to security of the region.

He added that a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East should ensure security and stability, through non-spread of mass destruction weapons.

He also said international agreements and treaties are the "core" of ridding the world of nuclear weapons.
