Communication minister meets Latin American presidents

Communications Minister Mohamed Larbi Messari, who represented Morocco in the swearing-in ceremony of Guatemala's new president, Alfonso Portillo, met with the presidents of some Latin American countries.

The Moroccan party was received by the presidents of Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Guatemala's outgoing president and vice-president.

The communication minister, who was accompanied by the Moroccan ambassador to Mexico and central American countries, also met foreign ministers of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and the secretary general of the Central American Integration System.

In 1998, Morocco and Guatemala had concluded a series of political, economic and cultural agreements.

Guatemala is Morocco's first trade partner in Central America, with trade exchanges between the two countries valued at $35 million last year.
