Israeli minister calls for reducing representation in talks with Syria
Syria-Israel, Politics, 1/17/2000

Israeli Labor Minister Eliyahu Yishai from the Shas movement has called for reducing the level of Israel's representation in the Shepherdstown negotiations with Syria.

In an interview with the Hebrew-language Israel Radio on Sunday, the Israeli minister added that Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy should be assigned to lead the Israeli delegation, as it is not possible for the prime minister to travel weekly to the US, especially as negotiations are taking place between sides concerned on the level of the foreign ministers.

Yashai also called for the participation of the political and security ministerial team in the negotiations with the Syrians.

He added, "Personally, I am briefed by Barak" on all matters, but this is not enough. He added that he wants Barak to disclose all papers and put them on the table of the political and security teams of his government.
