Sudan, Bahrain to set up joint higher committee

Bahrain and Sudan on Saturday in Manama signed an agreement that provides for the establishment of a joint higher committee between the two states under the chairmanship of Bahraini Deputy Premier Sheikh Khaleifa Bin Salman al-Khaleifa and Sudanese First Vice President President Ali Othman Muhammad Taha.

The Gulf News Agency said that the agreement includes determining basics and rules for developing relations between the two states in various economic, trade, cultural, scientific, media, technical and social fields and means of promoting them.

On behalf of the state of Bahrain, the agreement was signed by Minister of Housing, Municipalities and the Environment Sheikh Khaled Bin Abdullah al-Khaleifa, and the Sudanese side was represented by Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael.

The two sides also signed an agreement to encourage and protect investment, an agreement to avoid double taxation between Bahrain and Sudan, co-signed by the Bahraini minister of finance and the national economy and the Sudanese minister of state at the Finance Ministry, Muhammad Kheir al-Zubeir.

The two agreements aim at encouraging joint investments and tax-exemptions on income.
