Hamas leader still hidden in Gaza
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/17/2000
The commander of the southern region in Israel, Maj. Gen. Yamatov Samia, said that Muhammad Daeif, the number one wanted man in the Hamas movement, is still hidden in the Gaza Strip.
In statements to Israeli radio on Sunday, Samia added that Daeif has tried in recent years to carry out "damaging" operations inside Israel by the "cells" falling under his orders.
Samia stated that Daeif tried on September 12, 1999 to enable several members of his "cell" to enter Egypt and that two members of the cell, brothers Eyad Fayyad and Zeyad Fayyad, were arrested by the Palestinian Authority and detained in Egypt, respectively.
