Berri gives support to Al-hoss in fighting sectarianism in Lebanon

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri joined Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss the in his strong campaign against sectarianism that prevail in Lebanon and in demanding practical steps to eliminate factionalism.

In statements today, Berri said that while everybody agrees on a lot of things like opposing the settlement of refugees and supporting the resistance against the occupation as well as the correlation with Syria, there are still disagreements on small things that could form a disaster no less serious than the latest events in northern Lebanon.

Prime Minister Salim Hoss, Speaking about sectarianism, expressed hope that no obstacles would arise and impede the establishment of a Supreme National Body designed to take appropriate steps for the elimination of political-sectarianism as stipulated under article 95 of the Constitution.

Lebanon's news agency reported that Prime Minister Hoss told said that he favored by-passing religious sectarianism rather than eliminating sectarianism, because, in his words, this could not be done by mere decision-making. The Prime Minister; however, stressed determination to set up a Supreme National Body that could comprise President of the Republic, Speaker of the House as well as himself along with a number of leading experts.
