Israel welcomes visits of Pope John Paul to the area

Israel welcomed the anticipated visit by Roman Catholic Pope John Paul II to Israel.
A statement issued by the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that, "The State of Israel commends Pope John Paul II on his part in the struggle against anti-semitism, xenophobia and racism in all its forms."
Pope John Paul II is scheduled to visit the area on March 20 - 26, as he will visit the wailing wall and Al Aqsa mosque in the occupied West Bank and meet with representatives of the Jewish and Islamic authorities.
