Opening a harbor in Somalia
Somalia, Economics, 1/13/2000
Two leaders of Somali factions, supported by businessmen, opened a new maritime harbor near Mogadishu when hopes of reopening Mogadishu's formal harbor vanished due to political disputes.
Diplomatic sources in Cairo said the new harbor, named Gezira, was opened and that the ships in it will pay specific fees.
The leaders of the factions that protect the harbor agreed to share the revenues from fees with the businessmen who financed the establishment of the harbor.
