Matutes says visit to Morocco in January will be cordial

Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister Abel Matutes said Wednesday in Guadalajara his visit to Morocco in the second half of January is still on and will be "very cordial," Spanish media reported.

Matutes said it is common knowledge the two countries have contrasting views on the presidios of Sebta and Melillia (two northern Moroccan cities under Spanish rule) and stressed "huge common interests" and the fact that Morocco is "a good economic and commercial partner." Moroccan stability and prosperity are decisive for Spain's own security and stability added the minister, pledging more efforts and investment to help Morocco create wealth and jobs.

Matutes said he was optimistic his visit will be taking place in a friendly atmosphere because bilateral relations are good and positive results already show in migration control and Madrid's contribution to the association agreement between the kingdom and the European Union.
