Some 37 Bengali evacuated through Beirut's airport

Some 37 persons of Bengali nationality were evacuated for their country through Beirut's airport on Tuesday afternoon at the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Another 35 persons of different nationalities stayed in al-Naqoura awaiting the completion of measures on their documents to evacuate them from Lebanon.

Those Bengali, who boarded a Gulf Air plane, were provided with special travelling licenses provided from the ICRC including also free-of-charge travel tickets from the international organization for migration.

A boat with 72 persons of different nationalities arrived on October 30 in Lebanon. Its passengers were a victims of a blackmail attempt. They were supposed to be taken to several countries but the captain left them in the sea under the pretext that their boat was damaged and needed maintenance.

He fled and the Israeli marines withdrew the boat to al-Naqoura and they stayed their until the ICRC, UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army offered them medical and food aids and ensured their stay in al-Naqoura until measures are taken to evacuate them from Lebanon.
