Kuwaiti- Iranian agreement for fighting drugs
Kuwait-Iran, Politics, 1/12/2000

Kuwaiti Minister of the Interior Sheikh Muhammad Khaled al-Sabah has stated that the governments of Kuwait and Iran are preparing to sign an agreement on fighting drugs.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyassah, Sheikh Muhammad said, "An Iranian high-ranking delegation will visit Kuwait within the few coming days" to agree on "protecting the two countries' sea windows and to put an end to leaking operations through these windows as well as to eliminate all drug smuggling operations the two countries are suffering."

He added that the government of Kuwait is intending to buy "two planes to strengthen the forces of the shore's police during the two coming years."

The Kuwaiti shores extend along 300 km off Iran, which is considered an important crossing point for drugs which are exported to the Gulf states and Europe.
