Algeria, Politics, 1/12/2000
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Tuesday released a presidential decree which pardoned members of the Islamic Salvation Army organization, the armed wing of the banned Islamic Salvation Front.
This new step by the Algerian President comes in response to the initiative made by the organization in 1997 in halting all armed works, its declaration of a permanent halt to such acts in April, 1999, its dissolution and announced return to Algerian society and its voluntarily decision to hand over all military equipment and weapons to the Algerian authorities.

These committees are considered the basic element in the civil concord process, under which armed groups' members can surrender under an amnesty, in its capacity of receiving persons and groups which respond to the call of returning to integration with the Algerian society.
The time set for the civil concord law ends tomorrow, after which another chance for tolerance will start and then decisive resolutions will be implemented to end the file of violence in Algeria, which the Algerian president has expressed determinant to fulfill.
