Baghdad assures more civil victims due to the U.S shelling
Iraq-USA, Military, 1/11/2000
The Iraqi authorities said that 3 civilians were injured due to raids launched by US and UK jets in six Iraqi governorates on Sunday, but no statement was issued by the two countries that denied or confirmed the Iraqi accusations.
US and UK fighters impose no-fly zones in northern and southern Iraq, while Iraq does not recognize the two areas' legality.
An Iraqi spokesman said the jets hovered above El-Basra, Fian, El-Methanda, Wasef, and El-Kasicia which are located in the no-fly zones, and the jets attacked service and civil establishments, due to which some citizens were wounded.
Meanwhile, Iraqi forces fired anti-aircraft artillery at Operation Northern Watch aircraft, which enforce the northern Iraq no-fly zone, today "from an area southwest of Mosul and an area near Bashiqah," a statement from the US European Command said. It added that the aircraft "responded by dropping ordnance on the integrated air defense system."
