Two Lebanese sentenced to death in Congo
Lebanon-Congo, Politics, 1/11/2000
A military court in Kinshasa has sentenced two Lebanese citizens to death over smuggling money and spying on the rebels who control the eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The state-run TV in Congo said on Monday that the two Lebanese citizens were arrested at an airport in Kinshasa while trying to smuggle 4 million Congolese francs to the rebels who control Kesingali town, in northeastern part of the country on the way to Brazzaville.
The two Lebanese are the first two foreigners who are sentenced to death by the military court set up by President Laurent Kabila with the objective of limiting the illegal trade of currency.
