No progress in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations

The secretary of the executive committee of the PLO, Mahmoud Abbas, has asserted that no progress was attained in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian government on the final status, chaired by Oded Eran and Yasser Abed Rabbo.

Abbas also denied in statements quoted by the Israeli Radio the existence of secret channels in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian government, adding that only unofficial talks took place.

Meanwhile, Abed Rabbo, the Palestinian minister of culture and information, said Israel refused to allow the return of the refugees or payment of financial compensation to them, saying in an interview with Palestinian television that the Israelis absolutely refused this.

These statements came after the end of a round of negotiations on the final status issues between Israel and Palestine yesterday in Ramallah city in the West Bank. This meeting is considered the first in more than a month.
