Two international rescue workers killed in southern Sudan ambush
Sudan, Politics, 1/10/2000
Two Sudanese citizens working with the US rescue agency CARE were killed in an ambush made by the rebels in Sudan while two of their colleagues are still missing.
The U.S rescue agency said that the men who were killed are the manager of its bureau in Bentiu village, Ibrahim Ishag Abaker, and his driver, Mekki El Ekheir Mekki.
The U.S agency issued a statement concerning the accident in which it said that the two dead workers were among its four-man team on their way to Mayoum village to open a health center there.
Official Sudanese sources said the Sudanese government blamed rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army troops under the chairmanship of John Garang for the shootings.
